Be transformed by the Klahoose territory and people

I’ve been writing about the very unique remote wilderness resorts that dot their way across BC as we enter in another summer where most of us will be staying close to home. Are you as impressed with the secluded, high quality options as I have been? (Read about them here and here). Each has it’s own unique flavour. I’m pretty excited to get to tell you about another BC resort and this one is focused on Indigenous culture. And at the end of this article I’ll be telling you about an exclusive opportunity I have for you.

This is Klahoose Wilderness Resort’s inaugural season as they are opening to the public in May for the first time. Reading the words of welcome from Chief Kevin Peacey on their website really struck me. He said,

“Years of restrictive legislation forbid practicing most Klahoose cultural traditions which has significantly impacted our Nation. To combat this cultural loss, the Klahoose has embarked on a journey to rejuvenate its traditions, language, and identity. We are hopeful and delighted to see our youth’s eagerness to reconnect the threads of their past to the framework of modern life. The Klahoose Wilderness Resort’s visitors to our territory strengthen our opportunities while supporting our efforts.

On behalf of the Klahoose Council and membership, we extend a warm welcome and much gratitude. We wish you safe travels and hope you enjoy your time with us.”

It’s important to know that not only are the Klahoose people welcoming visitors, they are going to benefit from our coming and experiencing their home and culture. What a gift!

Is Klahoose Wilderness Resort kid-friendly?

It absolutely is! There are many families who’ve already grabbed their spot in a one or two-bedroom cabin with room for up to 6 people. Families can look forward to only a small number of other visitors at the resort, lots of space to roam, and many kid-friendly activities to try out. This place is kind of like a “choose your own adventure” style trip where your family gets to make it work for you! If food is an issue for your picky ones, let me know so I can talk to the chef and get a plan in place.

With a 3 or 4 night all-inclusive stay, your family will have everything taken care of so you’ll have the time and space to “slow down and smell the cedars” as they say. You can decide what will connect you best with each other and this amazing place. There are nature-based and cultural activities galore to encourage a real appreciation for this beautiful people and place.

All-inclusive stay includes:

  • Accommodation in a Lodge Room or Cabin

  • Klahoose Cultural and Wildlife Tour (May 13 - August 25, 2021)  OR Grizzly Bear Viewing Tours (Two Tours are included August 26 - October 7, 2021)

  • Activities such as Indigenous storytelling, cedar weaving, guided kayak, forest walks, forest and ocean foraging.

  • All meals from dinner on arrival to breakfast on departure

  • Use of Resort Amenities: great room lounge, free Wi-Fi, satellite phone, large deck, dock area, campfire area, kayaks, paddle boards, walking trails

  • Complimentary shuttle service is offered from Powell River Airport to Lund Harbour- where the boat leaves for Desolation Sound and the Resort

Exclusive opportunity for Tatum’s Tailored Trips clients

The resort is a 45 min boat ride (included in your stay) from Lund, BC. But how to do you get to Lund, BC from the Lower Mainland? Well there are a few options (mostly included a variety of driving and ferrying routes) but the quickest one is to grab a quick 35 min flight from the YVR South terminal to Powel River (approx $400-450 per person). From there, the Klahoose team will set up transfers all they way to the resort.

I am very exited and honored to be able to include flights from Vancouver South Terminal to Powell River for anyone who books with me for Klahoose Wilderness Resort for 2021. This is an incredible inclusion with a value of $400-$450 per person. That’s a savings of $1800 for a family of 4!

To take advantage of this opportunity please email me ktatum@tpi.ca right away to make sure there is still space available for the dates you’re interested in.
